Artist bio: Community Thru Creativity: Rick Beerhorst & Family have been creating exhibits in their home for years and the mobile Wonder Wagon is a natural way to bring art to the community. Rick, a painter & printmaker, has work in worldwide collections and exhibits. He has 2 Pollock/Krasner Artist Grants & a NEA Artist grant. Full time artist for over 25 yrs, he supports his family of 8 through the sale of his work.

Furniture designer & sculptor Cameron Van Dyke’s work spans a wide range of styles & materials, ranging from traditional furniture to interiors to sculpture. All of his designs are based on beautiful, simple proportions and honest, durable materials. His furniture & seating sculptures can be found in homes, lobbies, parks, & campuses throughout the US. His studio furniture & artistic benches have been shown around the country in galleries & museums.

Both families host studio events in their homes to connect with the community & are excited to work collaboratively for ARTPRIZE.
Artist statement: Rick Beerhorst desires to make visual art and music that arises in the most natural way from a life fully lived. His family of 8 are central to his inspiration. Beerhorst is rooted in art history and conventional art practices while pressing forward into new technology and contemporary issues. Frustrated with art remaining isolated in traditional venues, Rick is committed to bringing art to the community, and is eager to be a part of ARTPRIZE.

Cameron Van Dyke has been building furniture for 18 years. He is a licensed contractor and has completed residential and commercial projects. Interested in the combination of materials, he is versatile in steel fabrication, casting, forging, fiberglass, plastics, concrete, and woodworking. He works with architects and interior designers in exploring the crossover between sculpture and functional objects. By designing an interactive, functional sculpture Cameron hopes to create a tactile experience where the object will be used and explored.
About the work:
Title: Beerhorst Family WONDER WAGON

Art form: 2-D, 3-D, Film / Video, Sound, Performance

Medium: mixed media

Year created: 2009

Description of work: This is a mobile art studio built like a gypsy wagon. It is an art experience on many different levels. The wagon itself is a work of sculpture which will contain 2d and 3d art. We will invite people to step into the wagon to experience the art and the space. It will be pulled to its venue using a horse accompanied by walking attendants and musicians. A video documentary of the construction and procession will be displayed along with the wagon. We will pitch a old style canvass tent for art making workshops and hospitality.

Work statement: Community through Creativity - The Beerhorst family are known locally as a family of artists who show work in their home and have worked to make their work excessable and potent. We want to create an installation that is interactive to the core. We have been creating exhibits in our home for years and this mobile exhibit becomes a natural extension of what we have been exploring all along.
