Artist statement: I have had one undiluted passion in the past 30+ years and that has been photography. My inspiration is from my assessment of the fundamentals of the natural world. By capturing and isolating the ordinary through the inherent nature of the photographic process something provocative evolves. When I add obvious organic elements in a not so obvious arrangement or manipulate the original image, I believe the construct amplifies this allegory. A wonderful sensual and natural world quality evolves that provokes a venerated mystery.

Over the years i have learned to eliminate boundaries and therefore explore other mediums when so intrigued, hence my work with books & boxes, land sculpting, stringing found objects from trees, multi-media installations, film making and music.

Most recently, I have just wrapped up a solo show called TOPOS based on land sculpting photography at the Steenbock Gallery and i am currently in the Wisconsin Biennial show at the Rahr-West Museum.
About the work:
Title: meiosis

Art form: 2-D

Medium: digital manipulated photography

Year created: 2007

Description of work: 4 photgraphic images based on ice framed in black metal frames, each measuring 26"x36", the intent is to hang them linearly with about a foot space in between and 2 feet on both sides

Work statement: these photgraphs are from a series titled MANDALAS TOTEMS AND LINEARS, which is an exhibition using digitally manipulated photographs to explore beauty and nature and its relationship to the self. i have attempted to capture details from nature and emphasize their abstractions.
Natural elements are mirrored and manipulated to create an illusion of the microscopic, hence MEIOSIS. In the Jungian sense these mesmerizing forms become mandalas, a meditative tool for reunifying the self. The use of organic forms unites the viewer with the natural world on a subconscious level.
As in traditional totems [or in this case, linears], the visual elements idolize and transform the beauty of the common into the extraordinary. Following in the medieval Celtic imagery, natural forms weave and interlock to create a pattern more significant than the single object.
