Artist bio: Rekovic Firachardo is artistic collaboration between visual artist Erick Pichardo, performance artist Rachel Finan, with composer/musician Corey Ruffin. Between them they boast 65 years of challenging exciting contemporary art and performance. Creators of the Super Happy Funtime Burlesque Show and Fussion Dance Project, these three artists have shown or performed their works in just about every venue, warehouse, gallery, theater, and basement in Grand Rapids. Rachel, a nationally renowned Butoh dancer, has been featured as a performance artist in festivals from Mexico City to New York City. Eric, hailing from the Dominican Republic, after showcasing his work throughout the Caribbean brought a revolutionary style of painting and dance to Grand Rapids that has become much in demand. Corey is notorious for staging wild ensemble performance of avant jazz and modern operetta stylings, as the charismatic host of SHFTB, and as a sought after saxophonist on the music scene.
Artist statement: The Sixth Sense is an expression of what drives everyone and the fundamental reason for ArtPrize: Imagination. Transforming the Music and Movement studio into a cavernous representation of the five physical senses; dancers, musicians, and multimedia play throughout the room in continual performance and manipulation of time and space. Shamanistic, ritualistic, transformative, and primal performance art.
