Artist bio: My wife (Kiaralinda) and I are known as the WhimzTwinz, since we started our artistic journey together when we met in 7th grade and started dating in highschool. We have created our house "Whimzey", a fantasmagorical multicolored gingerbread cottage together -- as well as several "artcars" and "numerous artistic installations". Whimzey has been the arena for many artistic interactive fundraisers over the years, the last one being "Peace on Earth, Peace by Piece". 4500 peaceflags, (we solicited them on YouTube and by using our mailinglists) from 45 different countries were strung with lights to create corridors that the general public walked through after they created their own to add, becoming part of the installation that hung for 2 weeks. During that time, over 25,000 people enjoyed or became part of this event.
We have been making plans to put the "Peaceflags" on an international tour and Grand Rapids could be the first USA stop.
Artist statement: Inspired by a trip to burma, a country ruled by an intolerant regime, we were inspired to create an artistic interactive installation called "Peace on Earth, Peace by Piece". We would love to re-install some of the existing flags from the last installation in order to inspire the people of Grand Rapids to participate and make their own peaceflag to become part of this traveling exhibit. We would like to use a park with open space but accessible to foottraffic to create this environment. We will string lines and lights to accommodate the growing number of flags as we encourage the public to participate for the duration of Artprize. Folks can simply meander through and enjoy the visuals or create their own and become part. As soon as we are accepted we plan to contact teachers, civic groups, girlscout and boyscout troops and other groups to make their own beforehand or join us in the FUN at the park. Ah-Nab-Awen park would be our first choice due to it's central location.

Inspired by a trip to burma, a country ruled by an intolerant regime, we were inspired to create an artistic interactive installation called "PeaceonEarth, PeacebyPiece". We will re-hang some existing flags from the last installation and inspire the people of Grand Rapids to participate by making their own peaceflag to become part of this traveling exhibit.
