Roger King
Artist bio: I've been a welder for about forty years and I've always been involved with art. In 1998 I began combining the two. My earliest pieces were garden birds which were quite popular and which I still do today. I've done many whimsical figurines of animals in human situations with considerable focus on a recurring rat. I've done numerous abstracts and several surreal pieces including some hanging masks. I've recently done a garden bench, two larger dragon theme pieces and a Don Quixote figurine.
Artist statement: My intention, through my art, is to produce an emotional response in the viewer.
Altering something as cold, ridgid and uninteresting as random pieces of scrap metal into something capable of generating a significant emotional reaction is both challenging, and when realized, very rewarding.

Description of work: I'm making a figure of a Rat about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He will be working at an easel. Everything will be welded metal, including the easel. I'd like to place this in a venue where the public can be encouraged to interact with the rat and his painting. He'll be posed so that if someone is working at the easel, it'll look like he's watching them work. It should be interesting to watch his "work" morph regularly.

Work statement: I see this as a very fun piece, a very "hands on" piece and I'd like to find a venue where it would possible to encourage the public to participate or "interact" with the piece.
