Venue description: Monroe Community Church meets in a highly flexible renovated warehouse space in the mixed-use North Monroe neighborhood, which is home to galleries, parks, studios, restaurants, offices, and condos. Please approach from Monroe Ave just north of the 6th Street Bridge. A barrier-free entrance is in the rear. Our main space will be used to display artwork and host gatherings for ArtPrize. It is a 62’ x 64’ multi-use assembly space that includes a library/lounge and an open kitchen. One of the interior walls is the former exterior wall of the building next door, featuring interesting brickwork and enclosed masonry window openings. The space has sealed concrete floors, painted block and brick walls, and 18’ high exposed steel structure. This very rugged space is not precious and could tolerate custom display and fastening systems for installation artwork. Worship seating will be reconfigurable depending upon the art we host.

| Venue statement: Monroe Community Church is a growing Christian faith community whose mission is “transforming the heart of downtown.” As image-bearers of the Creator, we seek to honor God through celebrating the creative talents of our members, friends, and the community. We already embrace and encourage the arts in a variety of ways, such as our monthly artists’ gathering called “God’s Gifts”, an outdoor worship service called “Art in the Park”, musical involvement in the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts, collaboration on installation artwork with students from Kendall College, and a strong desire for multi-sensory worship experiences. Various forms of art, primarily painting, are presently displayed throughout our worship space. MCC would welcome artists to take advantage of our space, especially if the work is spiritual in nature. Our creative worship team will conduct a 4-week series of worship services based upon themes generated by some of the art that we are hosting. |
